The Beautiful Girls

When considering how best to go about putting together The Beautiful Girls' 4th album – main man Matt McHugh decided not to take the conventional route. Sure, he could have consolidated the bands already flawless track record of good time roots based rock – forged with albums Learn Yourself, We're Already Gone and Ziggurats over the last 8 years. That would've been the easy road. The hard road, it seems, would be to take his drummers kit, sample it piece by piece and then spend a year in his home studio putting it back together again as the backbone to Spooks – The Beautiful Girls' most diverse and intriguing album yet.

Matt estimates that he discarded about 30 songs before the right ones began to fall into place for Spooks – lucky for us then that he chose to keep tracks like Don't Wait – an edgy electric party starter and the album’s first single.

10:10 is an infectious cops and rude-boys narrative that will be sure to fuse perfectly with the Australian summer sun and provide many a festival highlight.

When these tracks are mixed with already established favourites like Music and I Thought About You – The Beautiful Girls suddenly begin to look like one of the most consistent acts in Australian music today – and a live act not to be missed.
