After releasing what was one of the definitive releases of 2010 with their debut artist album “Empire”, the support for Super8/Tab exploded across the globe, emphatically announcing their arrival upon the EDM scene.

Miike and Janne express their thoughts clearly in the inside cover, “one of our dreams was to release an album. At the time of doing it we never dreamed about releasing it as a collection of remixes from our favourite artists. That is now happening mostly because of you people out there who have been supporting our music.”

This highlights the enormous achievement of “Empire’s” initial release as it is unheard of for a debut artist album to be remixed before a second release and when you see who has supplied their talents for the remixes; the mouth literally begins to water. Gareth Emery, Lange and Rank 1 just to name a few but expectations aside (can one be blamed?) it doesn’t take much of a listen before you know “Empire Remixed” is the real deal.

As the first few bars of Maor Levi’s reworking of ‘Slow To Learn’ start emanating through the speakers it becomes clearly evident that this is an Anjunabeats production, the quality of the sound is second to none and is an auditory orgasm whenever listening to one of their releases.

Then the bass drops………….oh baby, here we go!

With so many amazing remixes on offer everyone will have their opinion on the stand out tracks but the highlights for this reviewer would have to be the opening “Slow To Learn” which simply catapults the listener into the stratosphere of sound, making the listener’s ears recognise the significance of not just the track but the whole album, slapping you across the face and demanding your full and undivided attention. Maor Levi has taken the difficult task of opening the album as “Slow To Learn” did in the original release and one couldn’t ask for a more ideal opening.

Jaytech’s irresistibly bouncy rhythms of “Eternal Sequence” was another stand out track in which Jaytech has infused his trademark rolling, progressive sound with and the resulting track is guaranteed to get the staunched toes tapping in enjoyment.

The driving power of 7 Skies reworking of “Mercy” deserves special mention as he has utilised the brilliant elements of the original and moulded them into a track which somehow manages to elicit more power and emotion than the original and this had the resulting effect of a twitchy index finger on the repeat button quite a few times just to savour the journey 7 Skies was propelling you through. Absolutely outstanding track!

Fortunately the high expectations and extremely high standards Super8/Tab set themselves have been easily matched if not exceeded with the release of “Empire Remixed” and although the excitement of this releases will continue for some time to come, one can only wonder what do the boys have in store for the future? Whatever it maybe, one thing is for sure, Super8/Tab’s empire is here to stay.
