As the sun begins to break through the winter clouds and the temperature starts to rise, so does the anticipation among the true party crowd as they gear up for the event that will kick off the summer festival calendar in truly unforgettable style: PARKLIFE. From small beginnings in 2000, PARKLIFE has evolved into a national institution renowned for delivering cutting-edge line-ups of incredible talent from around the globe. In 2007, the PARKLIFE National Tour proved to be the standout success of the year, showcasing what many regarded as one of the most diverse, eclectic and ground-breaking line-ups ever assembled, to a combined crowd of over 100,000 people across the country.
Now in its ninth year, PARKLIFE is as much an Australian icon as the eucalyptus trees under which it was first staged, and once again in 2008 will be bringing an unrivalled array of fresh and experienced international live acts and DJs to Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.
Parklife is a world of its own.
ADELAIDE – Saturday 27th September

Featuring:
& many more!
Goldfrapp
Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory’s band Goldfrapp is a modern music icon.
Australian audiences have never been the same since Goldfrapp’s last,
stunning Australian tour a very long 5 years ago. Since then they’ve released
two of this decade’s most influential albums, channelling T-Rex through Daft
Punk via Cocteau Twins and Studio 54 on Black Cherry and Supernature,
then melting our hearts with the perfect, personal Seventh Tree. Take heed, if
ever there was an act you might regret missing for the rest of your life, this is
it. Don’t!

Soulwax
Before the Dewaele brothers rewrote the book on DJ sets as 2 Many DJs,
they were in a band… That band of course is none other than Soulwax, not
only one of this decade’s most influential production outfits but also,
importantly when you’re planning your day at Parklife, a band that takes on a
whole extra dimension live, combining the best qualities of live and DJ set
modus operandi to mind blowing effect. Hot on the heels of their new world
tour documentary Part Of The Weekend Never Dies, Soulwax will bring a
new set we haven’t heard before to Parklife. (See also: 2manydjs)
Peaches
Peaches is a phenomenon: the self-made, self-produced, do-it-yourself leader
of the electro punk movement and high priestess of the original dirty lyrical
classics ‘Fuck The Pain Away’ and ‘Shake Yer Dix’. With tongue in cheek,
Peaches sets the new stage for society's sexy norm - playing with sexual
boundaries and twisting gender roles within a beat heavy tune. Her live shows
are legendary - a one-woman Kiss concert that has left the pop world in awe.
Iggy Pop covered Peaches' "Rock Show" and performed on the duet "Kick It".
Peaches has been churning out remixes for Daft Punk, Le Tigre, Basement
Jaxx, B52s, Tone Loc, Queens Of The Stone Age, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Bonde
Do Role, Ladyhawke, and Yoko Ono.

Despite half a decade of worthy attempts, 2 Many DJs’ As Heard On Radio
Soulwax Part 2 still stands as the best party mixtape ever created, an hour or
so of devastating mashups, inspired track selection, cool humour, and a level
of melodic sophistication in the mixing which few DJs even fully understand,
let alone manage to equal. When all’s said and done Parklife is just a party,
and 2 Many DJs are the last word in party rocking DJ sets. (See also:

Dizzee Rascal
His first big hit Fix Up, Look Sharp redefined hip-hop for the 21st Century and
Dizzee Rascal’s never looked back: 3 albums and an overloaded awards shelf
later he is if anything even more dynamic and essential, 2007’s ‘Maths +
English” album being described as the most complete, intense and thrilling
British hip-hop album ever made. Hip-hop with an edge plus jump up party
jams – don’t miss him at Parklife.

Martin Solveig
The man responsible for seminal house classics Madan, Rocking Music,
Everybody and Jealousy, Martin Solveig will be leading the French battalion
at this year’s Parklife. Since closing Field Day 07 in epic style, Mr. Solveig has
indeed been a very busy boy. He has teamed up with Fedde Le Grand to
create C’est La Vie, a coming of age club-rocker, was named in DJ Mag’s
Top 100 (#76) and has a new album out in June – we couldn’t be happier.

Plump DJs
Most musical genres give rise to a very select few acts that transcend the
trend and have greater relevance. So it is with the Plump DJs, who’ve
continued to smash every set they play, to ever bigger and more rapt crowds,
cementing their place in dance music’s highest echelon. With the excellent
new album Headthrash just released, there’ll be plenty of fresh plumpness to
go round – make sure you get your share!

Diplo
An early proponent of the ‘dirty south’ sound, Diplo has been at the forefront
of the promotion of Baile Funk outside of Brazil and continues to support
countless musical projects around the world through his label Mad Decent.
As one of the most renowned and in-demand remixers and producers, he has
worked with M.I.A and Bonde do Role to Hot Chip, and as a DJ he is
famous worldwide for one thing: straight up party.

Jesse Rose
The man behind the Front Room and Made To Play labels, Jesse Rose had a
somewhat quiet year in 2007 – nominated for Best British DJ (DJ Mag), #4 in
the IDJ Players of the Year and a despicable #14 in Mixmag’s Best Dj’s in the
World – shameful. Since then he’s delivered some dangerously good remixes
of Armand Van Helden and Hot Chip, completed a compilation for Get
Physical and worked on his new album with the likes of David E Sugar, Afra &
The Beatbox Band and Roxy Cottontail. Back in the day he also gave Sinden
his first job in the industry – cheers.

Blackalicious
Emerging from the influential US Bay Area indie scene in the mid-90s,
legendary hip hop duo Gift of the Gab and Chief Xcel have forged a
formidable partnership, delivering honest, thoughtful lyrics over deep,
innovative beats. Having released five critically acclaimed albums so far,
Blackalicious have toured the globe with the likes of Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige,
The Roots, Public Enemy and others from their Quannum label. Welcome
them back to Australia at Parklife this year.

Does it Offend You, Yeah?
With their polarising name coming from the hit UK TV series The Office, it’s
plain to see that Does It Offend You, Yeah? aren’t your average cup of Earl
Grey. The quartet has enjoyed a meteoric rise on the back of their debut
album You Don’t Know What You’re Getting Yourself Into. Touted by
Rolling Stone as “an obnoxious, dizzying, perfectly-of-the-moment blend of
Daft Punk, Justice and Rage Against the Machine” DIOYY are renowned for
their notoriously rowdy live shows – but “don’t get too close” warns front-man
James Rushent, “it could get dangerous.”

Neon Neon
Formed by Super Furry Animals’ front man Gruff Rhys and hip-hop producer
Boom Bip, Neon Neon’s brilliant album Stainless Style is inspired by the
colourful life of fascinating character John Delorean – car designer most
famous for the car/time machine used in Back To The Future. This bittersweet
homage features collaborations with Fab Moretti of The Strokes, Spank
Rock, Yo Majesty and has won widespread critical acclaim.

Metro Area
Born out of a dichotomous love of R&B, disco and boogie, Metro Area,
Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, burst on to the scene back in 1999 with
the cult-hit “Atmosphrique.”b> This spawned a bevy of pulsating releases, all
of which conveyed the duo’s ability to blend soulful experimentation and
melancholic sweetness with exciting effect.
Of most note was their self titled album, which was listed as one of Rolling
Stone’s Top 50 Albums in 2002. And now, for the very first time in Australia,
Morgan will be joining Darshan for exclusive performances as a duo at this
year’s Parklife.

Fake Blood
An enigma in every sense, Fake Blood burst our brains last year with his memorable
reworking of “Any Way You Choose To Give It", which we put higher on the remix
shelf than Switch’s classy effort on "Face." Soon to follow were murderous takes
of “I Want Your Soul" and “Gasolina", which left Diplo a self-confessed "fan boy."
Rumours are rife about his actual identity… and before you scream the answer like
you’re on a game show, Fake Blood isn’t Boy 8-Bit. Identity aside – anyone who can
make Sinden and The Count’s massive hit “Beeper” even more popular is fine with
us.

XXXChange
Alex Epton aka XXXChange, famous for being one of the founding members
of Spank Rock, has indeed come along way since his days as an intern at the
uber-cool DFA. After wowing us with his production skills on YoYoYoYoYo
and more recently The Kills’ Midnight Boom, Mr. XXX has turned his focus to
dj-ing and gone on a remixing frenzy of late, with the likes of Beck, Santogold,
Bonde Do Role, Thom Yorke, Kid Sister and Justin Timberlake all feeling his
unmistakable Baltimore fused-with-indie touch.

Familjen
Familjen (“family” in Swedish) is the brainchild of Johan T Karlsson, a
prominent figure in the Swedish electronic scene. His debut album “Det
Snurrar I Min Skalle” (“It’s Spinning In My Head”) was recently released on the
inimitable Telle Records (Datarock, Royksopp, Annie and Kings of
Convenience), and has been described by Amazon as “Hacienda in
springtime, Mylo on downers, Rex The Dog's soundsystem and A Guy Called
Gerald's dreams”.Get ready to jump around with glee to cute-as-a-button
Scandinavian electronica.
http://www.myspace.com/familjen
Ladytron
Shiny, glittery, subversive pop music. Ladytron emerged with their own brand of
pristine, tightly structured synth-pop with instant hits like Destroy Everything You
Touch. Shaping the sound of electro-clash before the style even had a name,
Ladytron are back with their fourth album, Velocifero, a tantalising piece of distorted
soul drawing on the wealth of two decades of electronica, new wave and rock. This
is their first live tour of Australia so let’s show them what we’re made of!
http://www.myspace.com/ladytron
Yuksek
After leaving us breathless with his one-man live show in July last year,
Yuksek seems to have a running-bet with Crookers to see who can churn out
the most remixes in a calendar-year. Twisting everyone from Siriusmo and
Chromeo to M83 and Zombie Nation with his acidic electro-rock, Yuksek’s
brilliance as a musician/performer is only matched by his Parisian playboy
looks. Labelled by Mix Mag as “a funkier Para One with just a pinch of
Simian”, Yuksek proves that you don’t have to be from Ed Banger to be
bloody darn good.

Van She
When Nick, Michael, Matt and Tomek met at a fictitious audition for a vocalist
in a doom metal band back in early 07’ there’s a good chance they weren’t
best pleased. As fate would have it they decided to form Van She and haven’t
looked back since. With Sex City and Kelly, two of the biggest electro-pop
tunes of last year under their belt, and more recently street-track Cat and the
Eye and the post-disco anthem Strangers, this Sydney 4-piece ain’t no lazy
pastiche. To the guy who posted that sham advertisement in Drum Media –
great work mate.

Elektrons
Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford of Manchester outfits the Unabombers
have morphed into what has been hailed as the saviour of the UK dance
scene as the Elektrons. Their album Red Light Don’t Stop is an effortlessly
uplifting yet grimy fusion of everything from garage to 2-step, hip-hop to
unashamedly straight up pop and everything in between. With massive
singles Get Up, Classic Cliche and the Sinden-remixed Dirty Basement
there’s no doubting that they’re here to get dirty!

Boy 8-Bit
Named after the 8-bit samples he used to use to produce records on his
Amiga computer, David Morris has come a long way from these simple,
nerdy beginnings. Having built a reputation through solid party remixes for
artists as diverse as The Black Ghosts, Burial, Mika, Chromeo and
Armand Van Helden and his distinctive sound that combines chopped-up
vocals with heavy bass and breakbeats Boy 8-Bit is regarded as one of the
finest party-starters around today.

Bag Raiders
Fun Punch anyone? Easily one of the most played tracks of the past year, the
classically trained duo of Jack Sabbath and Chris Brave followed up this
spectacular electro hit with some very handy remixes for Kid Sister, Headman
and most recently, The Galvatrons. Now signed to America’s answer to Ed
Banger, Fool’s Gold (who will be releasing the Sydney duo’s EP in the coming
months), Bag Raiders will be going LIVE at Parklife in 08 with keyboards,
drum-kits, decks and laptops - we can’t wait to check it out!
http://www.myspace.com/bagraiders
Dragonette
Formed around the dynamic husband and wife duo of Martina Sorbara and
Dan Kurtz, these Canadian ex-pats are all about the promotion of guilt-free
promiscuity through their sexy brand of electro-pop. Reminiscent of the heady
days of synth and guitar-driven 80s pop, mixed with big beats and raunchy
lyrics, the band have torn apart dancefloors worldwide with dirty, hook-heavy
monsters like I Get Around and Competition.
http://www.myspace.com/dragonetteband
Slyde
Robin 12Tree likes cheese. Jason Laidback was a scratch dj at thirteen.
Together they have been pumping out layered beats as Slyde since 2002.
Signed to who else, Fingerlickin’, this London duo treated us to the
outrageously funky Slippedy Slide and infectious Krunk – both of which
caught Keith Flint’s eye and led to collaboration on Clever Brains Fryin’.
With debut album Everyone’s Entitled To Our Opinion in tow, get ready for
some “sex n drugs n rock n roll.”

Grafton Primary
The Garden Brothers, Joshua and Ben, and drummer Robbie Mudrazija aka
Grafton Primary, are the trio behind some of the best Aussie electronica to
grace the airwaves in the last 12 months. With their poetic fusion of digital and
analogue ideas and future echoes, Grafton Primary live by their motto to
“educate, motivate, liberate” and in the process have delivered the ode to
love, science and pop, Relativity, and the empowering, philosophical anthem I
Can Cook, in an ultra-classy fashion.

Ajax
Ajax spends his time throwing world famous kick-arse parties, releasing hit
mix CDs and running the Sweat It Out music label on the side. He mixes it up
like no one's business, touring the world and jumping on the festival circuits to
show us how to party. Ajax is a constant crowd favourite who always
manages to whip any gathering into a crazy frenzy!

Van She Tech
Van She Tech is made up of Nick Routlege and Michael Di Francesco from
the band Van She. The dynamic duo have received international acclaim for
their killer remixes of the likes of Fiest, Klaxons, Presets and Dragonette,
making them one of Australia’s most in demand production names. They’re at
the forefront of the Australian indie-electro scene and have lent a hand at
producing other bands such as Ladyhawke and Pnau’s latest offspring. Get
ready to go f*cking crazy when these guys hit the decks!
