Odds on for a great BIG DAY OUT at Flemington Racecourse

The audience at the 2009 Melbourne BIG DAY OUT is set to enjoy a greener, shadier day with improvements to the Flemington Racecourse venue to begin immediately after the Spring Racing Carnival wraps up this month.

‘The Greening of Flemington Plan’ is a vision for the Melbourne BIG DAY OUT’s long term future at Flemington Racecourse and includes improvements that will benefit BIG DAY OUT patrons in both the immediate and medium term. An extensive program of works will begin next week including the grassing of the gravel and asphalt car park areas, and the planting of additional shade trees across the site.

The 2009 BIG DAY OUT will also have substantially increased tent capacity to address both shade and shelter concerns, tiered seating at the various stages around the site to make viewing easier, increases to bar serving areas and staffing, and reductions in queuing.

Additionally, it has been decided to open up the second railway platform at Flemington Racecourse station to ensure speedier loading and departure on the trains.

BIG DAY OUT Promoter Vivian Lees says, ‘I am confident that the site will evolve and provide many memorable BIG DAY OUT events well into the future’.

The Melbourne BIG DAY OUT takes place on Monday 26 January.
