If we’re beamin’, it’s because we’re psyched to be welcoming back hip hop superstar LUPE FIASCO.
“One of the best shows, ever… From the drop of the microphone, LUPE was right into it. The real fiasco began when LUPE pulled out favourites like Kick, Push, Hip Hop Saved My Life, Superstar and Go Go Gadget Flow.” (FasterLouder, March 2010)
The MC with the madly energetic, fast-flowin’ live-band show kicked and pushed outta Chicago with two Grammy-nominated albums, Food & Liquor and The Cool. He’s collaborated with Kanye West, Mike Shinoda and Pharrell Williams, won praise from Jay-Z, founded a design and clothing company and released a punk record with his side project band, Japanese Cartoon. And, as he told Complex, “I’m better than you. And I can really rap. And you’ll even say that I’m better than you.” All of which proves, thankfully, that while he may have talked of retirement plans in recent years, too much is never enough for LUPE FIASCO.
“LUPE live is an entirely different beast to LUPE on record. His band is fundamentally a rock band playing hip hop beats; they turn the hip hop sound on its head while LUPE manages to work the now fine line between the two sounds with amazing skill… A huge show… LUPE and band were at their gun-slinging best.” (inthemix, April 2010)
Since last hitting these shores, LUPE has collaborated with two of the world’s hottest urban acts, Jannelle Monae and B.o.B on Tightrope, and wrapped a new album of his own, Lasers. But where is that album? Singles I’m Beamin’ and Shining Down were a tasty tease, yet the album proper remains so damn anticipated that the rapper’s fans have resorted to petitioning – and perhaps even picketing! – his label to have it released.
That’s just the kind of passion LUPE FIASCO inspires, and that’s why we’re beamin’ to have him back Down Under this summer.
These are the ONLY Australian LUPE FIASCO side shows outside of the Big Day Out dates. Tickets go on sale for both dates at 9.00am local time on Monday, 22 November, 2010.
