He may have grown up “alone and lonely” in the south of Germany but thanks to a burgeoning reputation, Superpitcher’s making friends all over the globe. Success has been a long time coming for German native Aksel Schaufler (Superpitcher).

He collected music from the ripe age of 16, seduced by the sounds of Roxy Music and Prefab Sprout. Even at a tender age he had aspirations for his sonic vision to be bigger and better. As adulthood approached, Schaufler found himself employed in the distribution bunker of legendary label Kompakt.

It was here, in Kompakt’s bunker, where his love-affair with Roxy Music shifted to the likes of Wolfgang Voigt, Chain Reaction, Joerg Burger and Air Liquide. Nowadays, Schaufler has even closer ties to respected German label Kompakt. Hark back to the start of the naughties (2000) to find his inaugural appearance on Kompakt.

It all started with Shadows, a hauntingly, foggy yet melodic trip hop production which appeared on Kompakt’s Total 2 compilation. In 2001 he contributed a track to Kompakt’s first Speicher 12" with his mind-boggling beautiful Heroin, a three-track 12" with three unique and diverse sounds.

Clearly his studio exploits were resonating, so he focused on production skills and ditched his work in Kompakt’s distribution department.

Proving he was no one-sound-wonder, Tomorrow was introduced and included on the label’s Total 3 compilation. In spring 2004, Schaufler was at his unrestricted and creative best when he released the dynamic Here Comes Love. Schaufler’s managed to accrue an imposing discography of diversity, including his memorable re-work of Brian Eno’s Baby’s on Fire and sought after mix CD, Today.

Add remixes for the likes of Dntel, DJ Hell and Quarks as well as his partnership with Michael Mayer, under the guise of Supermayer the duo spawned the impressive Save the World, he has no reason to feel forlorn. So Superpitcher has gone from lonely to lovin’ life as he keeps a constant touring schedule.

Regardless of his production exploits, one thing is guaranteed whenever Schaufler’s involved:

unpredictability is his forte.
