Their debut FOR ALL SEASON is out September. As far as iDJ Mag is concerned, “Karton are fast becoming the new Hybrid. No scrub that, they’re already there."

As genres have risen only to fall, production duo Karton have developed and refined their own unique sound, which – while grounded by their love for all things breakbeat – is never limited by the constraints any single style of music provides. The variation in their production work and club sets illustrates that Karton don’t simply follow the crowd but rather craft a distinctive style as they continue to push their sound to new levels.

Karton - All You Need (feat. Nick Craven)

Recently ClubAntix had the chance to corner the boys (well at least one half Paul Beohm)

1 - How did you guys come together as a duo?
We met through a mutual friend who suggested we should get together as they thought we had similar sensibilities so we did, wrote some tunes that got picked up by the now defunct Sound Not Scene label, and it all began from that.

2 - In what order would you say are the best things to come out of Canberra: Pot, Porn, Politics or Karton?
Ha, in terms of the national interest it would have to be porn, politics, pot and then way down the list Karton.

3 - Your ultimate goal in music?
As nice as it would be to be able to go full time in the studio for the rest of our lives I think the ultimate goal for us is for it never to get boring, if that happened it would be over, as long as we are enjoying it we will still be doing it.

4 - Biggest tip for someone starting out?
Get lots of feedback is always a good idea but I think that you need to be your own harshest critic, too many people start posting things around and sending them out before they are at a professional level, we were guilty of this early on and its not a good way to get your name out there.

5 - What does the family think of all this?
I think they are pretty indifferent to it all, they have been incredibly supportive, but to some extent I think there is a level of disinterest as its just not their thing. I think they see it as us just us wasting time in front of a computer to some extent :)

6 - If a piece of string, what colour would you be and why?
If we were a piece of string? Hmm, maybe black, I have no basis for choosing that colour, just the first one I thought of.

7 - Have you learnt any Spanish yet for your August trip?
Ha, not yet, I think we can get by with a couple of key phrases only, hotel, food, airport, scotch.

8 - Have you updated your enrollment for the election you'll be missing?
Yeah I think we are both ok, will be interesting to watch from the other side of the world.

9 - What can we hope to hear on your upcoming album?
Lots of different stuff that hopefully you will connect with. The album is called ‘For All Seasons’ for a specific reason, we tried to cover as much ground musically as we felt we could while still being coherent and staying inline with the Karton sound and ethos.

10 - Where does the inspiration come from for your tracks?
All over, sometimes its from hearing a cool song, sometimes its just from having an idea for a tune and seeing how it comes out in the real world.

11 - 5 people you'd love to have front row centre at a gig?
Hmm, Our girls, Michael Gudinski, Bill Murray and Chevy Chase.

12 - What is music to you?
Music is can be anything to anyone, thats its appeal, it can be fun, frustrating, enjoyable, time-consuming, inspiring and heartbreaking, or anything else.
