Junior Jack

First off, Junior jack is a big lover of chocolate; an admission and apology first and foremost as our interview coincided with a giant mouthful of the tasty treat. “If you eat Belgium chocolate, there is no turning back – no way, it’s the best thing in the world,” he laughs, even though the confession might be a little controversial “I’m an Italian, but that’s the truth. The way they make it, it’s incredible.”

Junior Jack is also a very successful and distinctively styled house music producer, when not stuffing himself full of food. “I know you didn’t call me to talk about chocolate,” he says giggling, so “I’m guessing the Australian Tour?” He’ll be here for three week, passing through Indonesia, Bali, New Zealand and then spending a few days in the land of Oz. “I have no plans,” he pauses thinking about what on earth he could do on his rare days off, “I’ll be honest it can sound strange most of the time, we just go to where we need to be. We know that we are touring,” he laughs “but we know there is a week in Bali and then we are playing at Home in Sydney! We played there a few years ago and it was really good.” Getting himself sorted date wise, “we are in New Zealand for New Year’s Eve but we just don’t know what the planning is for us,” he admits. Through those rare moments off, he isn’t “planning anything special, just playing and getting some sun.”

Chatting with Thomas Schumacher

The German’s latest sojourn to Australia comes on the back of Get Physical’s 8th annual Anniversary Compilation album – an album that highlights the label’s legacy and future direction. If it’s an intricate knowledge and understanding of contemporary electronic music that you’re after, it’s hard to go part Thomas Schumacher!

From the moment Thomas Schumacher heard a DJ mix acid house, he knew dance music would be forever in his life.

When Thomas Schumacher first put needle to wax, he knew his infatuation with electronic music was set. It was during a school trip from his native Germany to London’s renowned Blackmarket Records in the capital’s trendy Soho district that really hammered home his admiration for electronic music. He became entrenched in the fledgling German techno movement. And so Schumacher’s, and Germany’s, love affair with beats commenced.

A chat with M.A.N.D.Y.

It is rare to be able to have a moment and have a chat with a true artist of our time. Philipp Jung is 50% of M.A.N.D.Y., a Berlin-based electro house group consisting also of Philipp’s other half in musical crime; Patrick Bodmer. Heading back to Australia in 2011, the pair plans to tear us a new one with their eargasming sounds, politely reminding us how it’s really done.

Over the past several years, the boys have released some of the most influential dance sounds in the world. Their resume includes residencies with Monza in Ibiza and Berlin’s Watergate club, extensive worldwide tours and a few tracks with Booka Shade (for whom he is currently mixing a new and exclusive Body Language Compilation) among many others. The past 20 years has also encompassed the development of a record label, their tunes listed on over 100 compilations and to add to all this, they aren’t all bad at mixing either.

The boys of M.A.N.D.Y. met as 15 year olds on a Tennis Court with a simple dream of music, parties and having fun. Putting this plan into action, adding in the sounds of early acid house in the late 80's in Saarbruken, Germany, Patrick & Philip’s lifelong obsessive love for electronic music began; they threw themselves into the music, buying records, driving to Frankfurt’s parties and raves, and DJ’ing at friends’ after parties.
