If playing at the history making Sensation event on New Year’s Eve wasn't enough, Trent was also invited to join the Trance Energy national tour in April in which he also completed mixing duties on their ever popular CD compilation which has sold overwhelmingly well making an impact on the Aria Dance Charts. On the production front, Trent is just as busy.
Remixing for the likes of Rank 1 on the 2009 Trance Energy Anthem, L.E.D. There Be Light along side Australia's number 1 DJ tyDi and also releasing a string of releases on local label 405 Recording add to that a monthly podcast "Memiors Of A Podcast" avalable thru iTunes and one could say there is no rest for the wicked.
In September 2010, he will be supporting Richard Durand and Jonas Stenberg, we sat him down for a little Q&A...
What can the Australian audiences hope to hear from you through the ISOS / Airport Tour?
Lots of absolute tunage. I’m really into a lot of progressive and techno crossover tunes atm. I’ll be doing warm up for Richard on all the dates, it’s going to give me an platform to push this sound. As always way ill sneak a few cheeky bootys’ in for good measure.
What is trance music to you?
Trance to me is a state of mind. A place to get lost and slip off into a subconscious state of mind. Any music can take you there if you let it.
Described as a DJ taking "the Trance scene by the balls", how did they really feel?
It felt great, one thing I like to bring to Trance is something different. I like to shake things up and expose crowds to something they wouldn’t normally here. I’m forever searching other genres for something with an edge that I can bring to Trance. The one thing that keeps me playing Trance is the open mindedness of being able to drop Progressive, Techno, Pys, House and Trance all into the one set. You can’t do that with other genres. You don’t see Techno DJ’s dropping a Trance tune mid set, but Trance? Anything is possible!
Is there pressure now for you to propose to Rebecca with the recent engagement of MaRLo and Janette?
Haha I'm being set up here (Ur dead Spong). Well, Bec is completing a scholarship in Sweden for the next 6 months and I certainly won’t be proposing via Skype lol Who knows what will happen when she gets home but one thing I do know is I won’t be bowing to any “pressure”. It will be when we are ready and the time is right. (MaRLo if you're reading, stop making me look bad haha)
What do you think the Australian Festival Scene is missing?
Trance Energy. There is an overload of festivals in Melbourne but the one thing these isn’t is a dedicated Trance festival.
You've supported the likes of Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and Carl Cox, have you ever gotten Star Struck?
I sort of did when I met Tiesto for the first time. I was back stage in the urinal and he came up next to me unzipped and busted a leak. I looked over and said something along the lines of “Hey man, I'm Trent. It was an honour to warm up for you tonight” then kicked myself thinking, could I have said anything more cliché? Oh well, you live and you learn. Everyone is really cool thou, They like to eat, drink, play music and party so we get along on that level.
What is your aim for all things musical?
To keep developing a sound that is true to me. As a DJ the most important thing you can do is move with the times and continually bring fresh sounds to the dance floor. That’s what I pride myself on. Dance music moves on quick and if you don’t keep up you get left behind.
Where would you be if it wasn't for Music?
That’s a good question, I was a in a lot of trouble as a kid. In and out of police stations and court rooms. DJ’ing is what got me back on track and gave me something positive to focus on. I really don’t know where I would be if it didn’t start?
Most random thing to occur so far while playing?
A chick offering me a pill at a club years ago is right up there. I said no of course, then she asked me for a sip of my drink. I gave it to her and when I got the drink back and had another sip I seen that she put the pill in the drink. By the time I looked up to say “what the fuck are you doing?” she disappeared into the crowd. Could have turned ugly real quick if I didn’t see it in there.
What does your family think of all this?
Quite chuffed actually. I think they are real proud. My Mum always calls me before a big gig and say “knock em dead darl” Bless her dear heart and soul!
When and why did you make the transition between DJ'ing and Production?
Only about two years ago did I started really getting into production side of things. I have an really short attention span but as I've gotten older im starting to really focus and spend more time writing. Its paying of too, I have a remix almost done of an act responsible for some of Trances biggest anthems, a collaboration with Binary Finary about to drop and a new original almost complete. Remixing Rank 1 – L.E.D. There Le Light was what really gave me the drive to keep producing.
Any rituals or superstitions when or before you play?
I like to rest before a gig and arrive an hour or two early to start throwing back drinks. That usually means I’m nice and amped by the time I hit the stage. (and drunk by the time I leave the stage)
Track you wish you'd made?
K.L.F – 3AM Eternal or Union Jack – 2 Full Moons And A Trout (Casper Pound Remix)
Track you never want to hear again?
Too many to think of one right now?
