After what seemed like weeks of meteorologist cock-up’s and something closer to seven seasons in one day (thanks, Melbourne), the sun Gods were shining on a glorious Saturday afternoon, just in time for Stereosonic Festival to burst into Melbourne, full swing, to dazzle and delight.

And dazzle and delight it did.

The hotly anticipated Tiesto Kaleidoscope Tour in Melbourne has drawn to a close with the man delivering three sets to eager crowds of thousands at the Hisense Arena. Although before sinking any teeth into Tiesto, there are three boys that must be applauded – Grant Smillie, Trent McDermott and Ben Evans; the local supports for the Worlds #2 DJ.

After three hours and a journey that convinced us that the choice to travel coach was a bad one, we arrived at Southbound on a sunny Saturday afternoon, tired and likely over-packed. After trekking between the bewilderingly far apart day entry and camping entry gates, we picked up our passes and set out to pitch our tent.

After attending many gigs at Festival hall, I never really got a good feeling from the venue as usually stage setups are so-so and inturn presence of the artist usually suffers, but tonight my feelings were changed and a complete opposite of what I had expected.

Something for everyone and no one would be disappointed.

It was with great anticipation that I rocked along to see Black Kids at the Corner on their Big Day Out side show. Not so much because of the growing hype surrounding them, but I was wondering how they would match their arch nemesis that I had seen on the same stage only several weeks before. That's right, it was a show down with the amazing performance delivered by The Whitest Boy Alive.

When The Ting Tings hit the stage at the Prince on a hot St Kilda night, I was surprised to see there was two of them. I knew that they were a duo, but there seemed to be more sound than that belting out. The crowd jumped around as if they were being whipped up by the energy of a mega-member band like Pollyphonic Spree.

"Yep, it’s that time of year again," I tell myself as I make my way to a friend’s house for the annual ritual of pre-drinks for the BIG DAY OUT! And I tell you, the excitement doesn’t fade from year to year, as the line-ups seem to get more and more impressive.
