Creamfields: Filo & Peri

Print
New York based production team Filo and Peri consisting of Dominic Filopei and Bo Pericic have held the number one spot on the Billboard dance, as well as an entry into the UK National Top 40. Their debut artist album "Nightplay" hit shelves in November 2009 with the help of Paul van Dyk, Vandit & Unknown World Management, and Vandit Records.

Outside the studio Filo & Peri have been playing in nightclubs across the world. From Amnesia in Ibiza to the far reaches of Luxy in Taiwan and back in their home country at Nocturnal Festival, their blend of euphoric trance, driving techno, and exclusive edits and mashups is winning them an international army of fans.

They are also on their way to Australia for Creamfields. So we thought we'd ask them a few questions....

Filo & Peri have come a long way from their humble beginnings to having built up a solid catalog of productions throughout the years on the biggest labels around the world. But who are they the rest of the time. We had the chance to catch up with Bo of the magic duo:

  1. When not DJs and Producers – who are Filo and Peri?
We're just two regular guys living our dream!

It's hard to find us not being DJs and Producers since we're always busy doing something music related!
  2. What would you be doing if not involved in music?
Rally car driver, Pilot, or Fund Manager. I'm serious!
  3. What is ‘Trance’ to you?
It's a classification and to be honest we're not huge fans of classifying genres. So many styles are merging nowadays and if you think it of what people considered trance ten years ago, and what "trance" is today, there is a big difference. To us it's all electronic dance music and if it fits our style, we'll play it! Good music is good music!
  4. What did you want to be when you were 5?
    Pilot
  5. Goals for 2010?
Keep making great tracks for our fans and continuing to grow in all aspects. So far so good!
  6. What does the family think of all this?
My family is extremely supportive and they are one of my main motivations! I'm extremely lucky to have them. Mom and pop are the two coolest parents I know! My dad is a doc and he has been known to blast dance music during open heart surgery!
  7. Are there any surprises for the audiences in Australia with your upcoming tour?
We have a bunch of new Filo & Peri songs to play as well as some mashups we've done, so yes!
  8. What are the highlights in your career so far?
There are the obvious things like the success our songs which have made the National UK Top 40 charts and Billboard number one here in the USA .

It's amazing to get to travel the world to play for crowds of 50,000 people along side the very deejays we grew up listening to!

But I think the main highlight is being able to live this lifestyle and wake up every morning knowing you're about to do what you love. We're extremely thankful for that.
  9. What is a ‘normal’ day in the life of Filo and Peri?
Wake up around noon, eat, work until 7:30, go to to the gym to lift weights or play basketball for two hours and go then go back to work until bed time which is usually around 4 am. I'm a night owl!
  10. Most random request from a fan?
There have been some funny ones over the years but the best is when people get hammered and request hiop hop.
  11. Tip for anyone wanting to give DJ’ing / Producing a go?
It's not as easy as it looks! You need to put in serious hours and focus on developing your own style. Nothing happens overnight and you need to make your own luck. Do it for the love, work hard, and it will pay off!
  12. Is there any ritual or superstition you have when performing?
Wish I had a cooler answer but nope!
  13. Plans while in Australia and not playing or travelling to yet another city to play?
Experience the culture and go on some adventures! I may take a rally driving class too!
  14. Are you afraid of anything (such as bears dropping from trees)?
Nope, just rain during the festivals!
  15. What is (or has been) the ultimate DJ / Producer and event for you to be involved with?
Two of my main influences growing up were Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren and now that I've worked and played with both extensively it's been a huge honour!

Quick questions:

What track do you wish you had made? Michael Jackson - Billie Jean would provide a nice royalty check every month :)
What track do you never want to hear again? Bo: Village People - YMCA
What is your mobile phone ringtone? Stock blackberry ring
Favourite Sport / Team? I don't think it gets any better than rooting for your country during the world cup.
Blondes or Brunettes? Brunettes
PC or Mac? Bo: Both!
Coke or Pepsi? Neither! Water please
Cats or Dogs? I like both, but I'm not responsible enough for a Dog.
Although your stage name is a collection of your real names, if Filo and Peri was actually a dish found in a restaurant, what would it be? Delicious, duh!
What is the meaning of life? Doing what you love!
