Class AJust after the release of her album, Me, Me, Me and Him: The Secret Life of a Receptionist, Class A stopped for a moment for a quick chat with ClubAntix.

How has the last month been where among other things, you've just released an Album...
The last month has been extremely hectic. Yes, put out my album, played shows and also just about to tour around Australia with Spit Syndicate and the Tongue. It has been an exciting month though, feel very relieved that my album has finally been released into the world. I have somehow managed to squeeze in some partying, cider drinking, and of course my favourite thing, office work!

As a Triple J Unearthed Artist, what tips can you give others trying to make it big?
Work really, really hard with what you have at the time and put it out there to as many people as you can. Don't be disheartened if things don't happen straight away, be patient, perfect your art and make your music as strong and unique as possible. If it's great music, people will recognise it eventually. You have to be happy with your music and proud of it, be confident, positive and proactive.

Your album, Me, Me, Me and Him: The Secret Life of a Receptionist hit a few nerves, where did all that inspiration come from?
It really just came from my life experiences. I wrote it over a few years, which helped me to change it up as I was writing songs at different times of my life. A lot of the inspiration came from me working in an office job, daydreaming and wishing I was somewhere else (writing music). Other songs were inspired by my new life in Fitzroy, which included drinking during the day in the park, my relationship with guys and pursuing my rap career at the same time. They are the common themes in the album.

If music fails, do you think you could venture back into the office?
Hmmm.. I am still there! ha! but I guess I have to think about my backup plan. I can't work 5 days in an office, it drives me up the wall! And I can't keep writing about being a receptionist, so I probably need to find another career for the next album!

How do you keep your material fresh and original yet seem to make it all seem so easy for you?
Um.. (thanks), I just write about my own life, so I have to make sure I'm living life to the fullest so I have something exciting to write about. I'm pretty honest about my thoughts and feelings, that's easy for me because I don't (usually) hold back and enjoy speaking my mind.

With such lyrical and singing talent, what drew you to hip hop as your genre of choice?
I have always loved poetry, and fell in love with Salt n Pepa in grade 6, I loved the combination of singing, rapping, dancing and awesome 80's outfits. I just loved the beats and attitude of Hip hop. I heard Aussie hip hop on the radio and thought there was something undeniably appealing about it to me and I started to try it myself. I have never really understood why I was drawn to it so much, There were only a few of us into Hip Hop at my all-girls private school. I just loved it.

What is the ultimate goal for your music?
To make the best music possible. I want to work with the best producers in the world and have fun with it and make amazing music with my friends. I would also like to travel around the world and collaborate with like-minded artists and see the world at the same time.

Is this where you thought you would be when you were 5?
When I was 5 I thought I was going to be a ballerina. I guess I have always wanted to be a performer, but there was no indication whatsoever of me turning out to be a rapper, or a receptionist. :) I thought I would be married with kids by now, I should get onto that!

Have you had much of a break in the past 2 years?
ha no, not really. I have been trying to finish this album for the last 4 years, and I have done more shows than I can poke a stick at. I do like to have some downtime though, otherwise I turn into a stressed mess. I don't feel right if Im not making music though.. It's a crazy burning desire I have. I'm hoping the tour might be (a little bit) relaxing as I'm staying in some states longer to catch up with friends. It will probably end up being a music making session somehow! I like to relax on Sundays and go to the park or go out drinking with my girls.

Now with the album out there and under your belt, what's next?
I'm ready to make more music! I haven't written a song for a while, it's time I got some exciting new beats and make a new album :) I'm doing a new film clip next, plus the national tour in November and playing at Peats Ridge on New Years. Also, my album launch in December. It's not over yet, it is only just the beginning!
