Part of Boy & Bear’s gift can be explained in the unique manner they came together. Three of the members were actually the frontmen of their own outfits, lead vocalists and primary songwriters in separate bands, before jointly realising their true destiny lay in pooling their considerable individual talents. Since then, this brilliant band have been impressing all listeners with their dense harmonies and brooding arrangements. They have had the opportunity to tour the UK and Australia with the likes Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling. In fact, such is their musical prowess that Ms Marling herself has asked two of their members, Jake Tarasenko and Tim Hart, to play in her backing band.
All of this was achieved on the back of a single EP. Boy & Bear's debut With Emperor Antarctica was recorded over 10 days at Studio 301 in Sydney. iTunes track of the week Mexican Mavis and the chilling, fluid Rabbit Song sound like the work of a band that has been playing together for years. It is astonishing to discover then that the key members of this band are only in their early 20's. A huge future clearly awaits Boy & Bear and you get the feeling that their journey is only just beginning.
