Big Scary

Print
Performing as a two piece band is an extremely difficult thing to pull off. Very few bands have done it well. The White Stripes and The Black Keys are two obvious examples of bands doing it right. Big Scary are another.

This Melbourne based boy/girl duo, featuring Tom Iansek on vocals / guitar and Jo Syme on percussion and vocals have been marching on, arm in arm, razing the Australian musical landscape for about 3 years. In that relatively short period of time they've managed to make a huge impact.

Their brand of fuzz-driven, brooding indie-rock has struck a chord with audiences everywhere and seen them earn support slots for the likes of Editors, Florence and the Machine and Midlake. Their singles Falling Away and Hey Somebody have also landed them on radio playlists all over the country.

Despite their minimalist approach to instrumentation, Big Scary is a band with significant vision and scope. This has been reflected in their Four Seasons project – in which they released an EP reflecting every season of the year. The subsequent Four Seasons Compilation will be released in early 2011 – and will feature their reflections on Summer for the first time.
