Bacardi Express 2010: MIAMI HORROR

Print
So you’ve managed to score yourself a spot on the BACARDI EXPRESS, what do you think will be the highlight of the tour?
It’s tough to say. I’ll probably grow to relish the late night mad dash between the party and jamming car. Something about leaving a party mid-peak on a musical buzz and go twist some knobs and faders harks back to same satisfaction. Ralph Machio must have gotten it if he too tried to perfect Miyagi’s wax on wax off method. Nothing inspires whimsical dance beats like the awkward shuffle through a crowd of people having a memorable night on your way to the synth dungeon.

How do you feel about going on tour with UK superstar La Roux?
It will be interesting to bare witness to the expansion of her fanbase to the far reaches of the often all too quiet outback, mate.

How would you describe your band’s live performance style?
It’s an equal combination of all the sweat and panache you’d expect from a restless live band blended with the bubbling arps and the spacey evocations of synthesised music. We attempt to hypnotise the audience and take their mind to the neosodian dance floor on malmac, alf’s home planet.

Which city on the tour are you looking forward to visiting? Why?
Sydney. There’s been a misfire or two in the past in which we were still sorting out some of the kinks in our ever expanding live show. Given they must have come off as somewhat dodgy, it’ll be a pretty great satisfaction to finally settle the score and deliver a solid live show for those Sydney-siders.

Do you find the regional crowds much different from the big city crowds?
The regional crowds just seem to go a bit a crazier than city crowds, usually because they get a lot less acts coming though.

How does the band prepare for a show?
It often requires various strategically placed stumps on the shore of a beach by which we practice our crane kicks. But sometimes it’s just a simple high five before we go on.

In your opinion, what makes a tour great?
The people - being in a band with good people changes everything. The amount of fun we have rapidly outweighs the never-ending endurance hurdles of playing every night. It also helps when you can say something like ‘spaghetti!’ and feel satisfied knowing your bandmates know what you’re talking about. Shared senses of humor are a must. There’s a magical point where you realize you’ve taken the jokes too far, which can make for some pretty ideal memories for the scrap book.

Who is your favourite live performer and why? Where did you see them play?
Cornelius are amazing because the visuals of the live show and music tie in together better than any other live show we’ve seen. They create a really interesting experience.

How do you feel about spending 48 hours with other bands, fans and media on a train?
It will definitely be memorable.
