Having only just woken up, Alex cannot wait to back to Australia, "I'm really happy get back in Australia," the trip this time adding in his "first time in New Zealand!" More than chuffed, "I'm quite excited."
"Last time was really really good," and this time, he plans to be brings with him a host of "surprises - new tracks!" One of which he only unleashed hours before speaking with us. This, like most of his sound comes from his main inspiration of his space, "from making (music) in my studio, in my house." Music to him is bliss, "music relaxes me," he said when chatting about how his impressive beats come together. A success seeing two of his singles ‘A Lot Of’ and ‘Adelante’ featured for 11 weeks on Beatport Overall Top Downloads. Selling more than 16,000 singles online; as well as licensing them on top notch CD compilations Azuli Presents Miami Sampler 2009 and Eric Morillo Subliminal Summer Sessions 2009.
Putting the music aside, he's "arranged nothing as s tourist in a Australia," he laughs, "maybe time to relax? A few days off. So far I'm not so relaxed, hope to have time. I'm stressed out a bit. A little too busy, no more private life, you can only imagine!"
Even with "no time off," from 1994 it was nothing but music, "I was a drummer in a rock band. I always thought about music, it was my big passion, not work!" It was always going to be any other way, "other than music, if it wasn't a passion, I don't think I'd be here today. I was a graphic designer, but that stuff wasn't for me - it wasn't music!!" He said, the choice was "basic. Music just has to be in me life! Should you be jealous?" he laughs, "it's the best work but it's hard work! There are tone of other DJs," out there he said, at a gig only hours before talking, "there were nine," go the demands on him are obvious.
Goals in the industry "maybe pop music," he admits, "that would be a very good one, although not that simple these days." With so much going on in life, "someday maybe I will do it. I love house music. It's 'my' music but I would like to try something new." Keeping things changing and fresh he said "House music might get a little boring, so try new - different, different name," he suggested. With so many highlights already it would be hard to pick just one, "I don't know," he laughed, "I'm happy about me position. (It's been a) long time to make music. A lot of 'good', not sure what is the best. I want to play around the world and just have free time to make music in my studio."
Having a chance to finally stop and take a deep breath, Alex will be in Australia for two weeks hoping to spend a few days 'off', "unlike last time." His previous visit, just not long enough, "it was winter, not to many things to do. I enjoyed Sydney, went to the zoo, never been Before. Hope I can do more. Maybe go to zoo again," but aiming specifically for the Aquarium. This softer side to this 100,000+ track download super force is animals, "I like something to see and know when travelling, something interactive."
"Always on tour," Alex finds it is the hardest part to being a producer. "My wish is to be in the studio," he said, " I don't have time to sleep! In 2010 to be a DJ, this year has not been so manageable," he said, now with "two labels, things to do get done, you can't get stuck." Although knowing where he's rather be, "trying to make things 100%," the other problem is that "it is harder to be in the studio; much easier to be in the Booth."
Fortunately for the Australian and New Zealand audience, Alex Kenji will be bringing his magic from the studio in his other home within the DJ Booth. Leaving soon for the U.S., Alex is nothing short of excited, exhausted and well equipped to tear the rooms apart throughout his Tour.
